Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

What makes a good dressing room?

Just like the subject says: What do you think it takes for a dressing room to be a place you would want to play at?

Setting? Events? Plot?

idk about everyone else, but if I wanted setting/events/plot I'd just go app at a game. my perfect DR is an open-concept community where you can play whatever the shit you want with people and the OP determines the setting and RP direction. basically a public musebox, I guess. that's why I like dear_mun so much--not so much the actual 'dear mun' part but the threads can go anywhere you like.

Good players are the best. I like it when there are people willing to work at CR. In some ways Dressing Rooms can even have the advantage over app games in terms of continuing CR, because of not having activity requirements. It means players can keep CR and show up when they have the time to play and not get booted for AC.

Events are fun because they can build community and get people playing together who might be too shy to do it otherwise.

A good setting helps, but since it's a Dressing Room it shouldn't be too prescriptive. Players have to be able to do their own thing to an extent.

But yeah, app game or DR, it makes no difference to one thing: a good DR should be welcoming.

I wouldn't mind a more structured dr since I hate writing apps and feeling like I have an obligation to tag players when I'm feeling too tired or stressed to do so but I like all the things a game provides, like an open world and maybe a sort-of there plot that you can investigate or ignore at your leisure.

Although the public musebox idea from above anon is also appealing, so I guess I swing to both extremes.

Players who tag posts. I can't fucking stand DRs where I'll join, get either 1 or 0 tags when I post, and then someone above me posts the next day and gets 100 just because people already know them. I'm not expecting a miracle, but I'd like an atmosphere where newbs are at least given a first chance.

A premise is optional, but I do enjoy them a lot. I like when a DR has a few concepts to play around with because it motivates people to post.
