Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Starting to see where the common complaint of "no one reads anymore" is coming from, here. This is a bad trend, DWRP. Stop that.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
what do you mean?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 06:35 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing the mean the fact that everyone is already posting their heightened emotion posts even though it doesn't start until Sunday.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 06:44 am (UTC)(link)
This.

I love this game to bits, but guys... please read the event posts a little more thoroughly.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think anything is stopping people from forward dating posts? Why can't people do that. It just had to be at 'night' right?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
Same thing bothered me with all the people who were posting video posts when the network was down in the snowstorm. The worst part is when it's something like that and your character reacts to what the event says is happening, it seems like you're having them overreact :/

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, oh wow. That really happened?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"everyone on the island will begin suffering from intense bouts of emotions starting tonight and growing stronger and more frequent come Day 32."

Quote from the event write-up, emphasis mine.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes I know, but I took that to mean that say if someone insulted your character, say, and they normally reacted like: >|

Then now they would be reacting like: >>|

And next week they would be reacting like: >>>>>>>>>>>>|

But I guess it doesn't really matter. I still think people need to learn to read things, though, if just not necessarily in this case.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-10 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
it sort of matters if you're complaining about people being stupid and not reading when what they're doing fits with the event just fine, it just makes it looks like you didn't read

i interpreted it like you did for the record, but it's obviously sort of vague and they aren't breaking the plot (unlike the posting while the network is down thing) so who cares?

I agree that people need to learn to read things, but the number of people here and across my plurklist grumbling about not everyone waiting 'til Sunday to start reacting to the event has hit a critical mass of annoying. (And, uh. 'You need to learn to read things', in some cases.) It bothered me to see it lumped in with the blizzard thing, because that was a definite case of 'holy fuck did you even read the event description' which snowballed because the common (erroneous) consensus on what was going on meant reacting in a manner in line with the actual event seemed out of left field. This, from what I've seen, really just seems to be more a matter of differing interpretations of the word 'intense'.

more like everyone's acting like the monsters are attacking, when the post clearly said... they aren't. at all. and they're staying on the beaches.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-11 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
They are? Where?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-11 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
just posts asking for death tallies on the recent monster attacks, which should be nonexistent. and another anon brought up a good example, all the network posts during the whiteout when the network was supposed to be down.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-11 10:22 am (UTC)(link)
What? I thought the death tally posts were in reference to the big monster attack that just happened though.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-11 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
...but several characters did die during the Day 28 attacks.

I really wish we get some downtime in between, or at least something related to the overall plot other than the monsters in the island. :( I get that it's a horror/survival premise and all, but I can't help but feel these events are too damned close to each other, since we've had that mission thing where ide wtf happened, the murder TV thing -- whatever that is -- and now this next two-week long event. My character's the kind who'll get himself involved in lots of things, so I have to navigate around these events; but honestly, it kind of gets boring when all these events are left unresolved and you're kind of just waiting for the next round of horrors or something. There's too many things going on at the same time.

Maybe it's just because I'm pretty new, but when most of the events are shit that's unresolved and not really part of the plot itself it kind of gets boring. Which is too bad, because I like my CR here.

I agree and disagree at the same time. I like the fact that we're having so many events now because before the new plot mod was brought aboard, this game was starting to feel way too much like slice of life rather than the horror game it's supposed to be. The murder tv plot is player-run, not a mod one, so they didn't have any control over when that went up. I feel like the issue of plots being unresolved lies with the players somewhat as well. The last event post is filled with unfinished/barely started threads. Things can't be resolved if characters aren't actually shown to make an effort, you know?

That said, I am a little disappointed that the plots don't seem to be relevant to anything. And what about the puzzles promised on the profile? My character has been here for months and never once had to solve even one. I think characters solving puzzles to get more info on the company/game/point of everything would be a great addition to the usual plots. Bonus points if the solutions to the puzzles aren't given to us OOCly, so that people have to make an effort to gain that info.

When it comes to dropped threads...the problem is that a lot of these plot-relevant threads are left unfinished because there's no real direction or purpose to the events. I've noticed that an event will be usually be outlined in a vague way. The threads end up petering out because the players don't have anything to go on or anything to do after a while. Some of the onus is on the players to work toward an ending of course, but when there's no ending to be found...

There were puzzles in the missions, but no one ever touched them or finished the missions in general. I think they're getting phased out, since there hasn't been one in months. Guess you could always ask and see about getting some again, with the new plot mod.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-12 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
a bit of a tangent but
what was the whole murder tv thing about anyway?

(Anonymous) 2012-02-13 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
One of the head mods apparently is adamant on having events twice a month, I've heard. Sigh.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-13 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
There's always been two events a month since the game opened, just not in January I think.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-13 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've been in the game since August, and two events a month has been pretty standard.
