Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Actually, concerning memes and D_M stuff maybe we should have a thread in the canon thread where people can drop off links to their posts in D_M and open memes for other people? Kind puts you more in public than just on plurk but it's easier to find (although a larger portion of the fandom doesn't check anoncomm, I think, but there's obviously still some of us around!).

In many ways I think Plurk's been bad for the DGM roleplaying fandom. Makes it a lot harder for newbies to get into things. It's also a problem because it's not like everyone in the fandom is reading everybody's Plurk, so everything feels more narrow. Potential for discussions on this anoncomm are severely limited because many players don't read it regularly if at all.

Ideally I'd like a meme just for DGM roleplayers to use, so that we all know where to go for communication and don't have to hang around here fruitlessly. But that's not good for hooking in newbies either...

I think another problem is a DR, which would generally be an easy place to wedge into the fandom without the hassle of apps and activity check in games, has gotten smaller, less active, and more inclusive (both from people just not tagging around and people just not being active and thus only tagging who they already know when they are). Open memes, while fun, just aren't well built for new interaction unless you seek it yourself.

And yeah, with plurk and anoncomm I think some of the discussion and advertizing and enabling of both the series and of RP has declined in the main fandom community, which was probably the biggest hook for newbies aside from personal enabling. I can't remember the last time I saw a game advertized there. Unfortunately it's not like you can just revert back to old ways, you have to adapt.

I think a general discussion meme could be good if you got it advertized around, though. Affiliate with the main comms, maybe have a directory of where you can find casts, where you can drop your open meme tags, where you can ask for advice and plot, etc. It'd need to be gotten really out there, but it could be a way to adapt. It seems kind of counter-intuitive to consolidate the fandom when the issue is inclusivity, but I think having an active, easily accessible open space for RPers of the series (or even just people who enjoy it otherwise) could encourage others to dip their feet into the water where they can easily track and talk about what's going on (plus RPers can be like enabling bloodhounds, which is both a good and bad thing).

So in essence, the best way to gain more roleplayers could be from closing off a little by making a DGM specific meme, but providing an environment where fans of the series can easily get into the roleplaying side if they want to.

I like this idea a lot. What's good for the fandom in general is good for the roleplaying side of it too.

Something like that, yeah! Activity is key to fandom livelihood, and a place for discussion and planning and plotting and organizing could be a great way to encourage it. And what better pool to draw in roleplayers for the series than those that are already into it?
