Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. It doesn't look like DW can handle 5,000 comment entries at the moment so please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

I'll admit I used to be really guilty of this, completely ignoring some responses. If it was because the tags didn't fit my prefs (the occasional case of someone not reading the pairing tags and in one instance someone tagged me with a furry) I usually give them a reply thanking them for the interest and then screen it.

If it's because the tag is just too poorly written to read or impossible to reply to well, or completely misses the post's purpose, I ignored it. Now I at least try a few back and forth, but if you give me literally a one word tag? Or a tag where your character literally does nothing? Nope. Moving on to better threads, thanks, but I leave them as they are.

Like I said, this is mostly just me being all weh weh but

Yeah, if the tag is a poorly written one-liner that you have a hard time thinking of a reply to, I can see that.

But I have seen some nice tags that were ignored. Tags that had decent writing, were a few paragraphs long, fit the entry's preferences, etc. It made me wonder just what exactly were in those tags that made them so 'uninteresting' that the OP f the entry ignored them? It's those kind of tags I'm talking about in my original pet peeve.

I'm guilty of doing this (though to be honest I don't really feel "guilty" per se) so I'll give my perspective on it.

It's all subjective. What might be nicely written and interesting to you might be just kind of mediocre to me. I might have seen the other player's threads elsewhere and, for whatever reason, not gotten a favorable impression of how they write and develop a thread, or their particular tag may in subtle ways not really be what I'm looking for. I may hold certain characters or character types to higher standards than others, or just plain dislike certain characters/character types. I probably sound pretty elitist here, but I do try to give everyone a chance, unless their tag is just straight-up boring. However, there are always going to be characters and players I connect with instantly, and others that I just don't connect with at all. In a dressing room I feel I have more freedom to make those snap judgements. I'm playing for smut, after all, so it's a safe bet to say that I'm playing for instant gratification. I don't really want to do tag after tag in hopes that something might develop if I don't feel that there's a spark there to begin with. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what the spark is, but I know it when I see it, and I know it when I don't. That doesn't mean the other character or player is bad, just that I'm not really connecting with them.
