[M] Just as planned

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! This is the designated catch-all entry. This is not an invitation to spam to your heart's content. The same rules apply.

Really, it's not going to hurt to ask them here. Some people might be a bit mean, but a lot of the anons are very helpful!

What sort of questions do you have?

i was wondering how people design (function-wise) and use their museboxes in particular. i'm familiar with having a list of your muses with brief stats and their journal links, but i've come across a lot more than that. is there anything that i should especially pay attention to?

and the whole plurking is pretty much new to me as well.

Plurk I can't help with so much since I don't have one personally. But overall design for a musebox is up to you. Some people love to be fancy, others are fine with defaults. All that matters is that it has what you want it to have since it is your personal spot to play with people you invite, so some people may find some things useful that others have no need for. A muselist is good to have, and you'll obviously want posts to play in. Some people also have posts to keep tabs on their verses and PSLs (basically the different types of characters, with one character you may have different settings you play them in, that's a verse. And a PSL is a private story line).

For a muselist, all that is really absolutely needed is the name of the character, what canon they come from, what their journal is, and any games you play them in. Nothing wrong with a text only list, my own is and very out of date at that. But if you want to make it pretty, that's fine as well.

first of all, thank you for this! it clears up a good part of my confusion. i guess what puzzled me the most is where the actual playing happens with museboxes involved.

Plurking is basically a social network tool. I don't know how familiar you are with Facebook, but it's essentially a horizontal version. You (or anyone) can make a plurk, aka a post about whatever, and people comment, sort of like an AIM or FB conversation.

People have argued that it works better than AIM given that you don't have to deal with people being online at the same time, such as different timezones and the like. You can do things like private plurk or ping someone (notify them) within a plurk so they know where to direct their attention to.

Personally I use my plurk for non RP stuff, so I only have a limited number of friends, but it's handy for plotting because of the above reasons.
