[M] Just as planned

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! This is the designated catch-all entry. This is not an invitation to spam to your heart's content. The same rules apply.

Fanservice is a good term for it.

Imagine if some of us were legit supervillains.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I can see it.

After a hard day of being foiled, you just want to come home and indulge in the fantasy of being an attractive and beloved person.

Oh shit oh shit oh shit

there's dragons and fiends and demons everywhere and i dont have the barcode to stop the good guys from killing me too

We would regularly kidnap the creators of our canons, to demand no cliffhangers and making our ships canon.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm ashamed to admit it but that sounds pretty great

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I like it and mostly (always) reblog, but I mostly use it like people use pinterest/weheartit - somewhere I can amass pictures/posts of things I want to keep on hand.

It depends if you really want something like that.

Otherwise, no, I wouldn't think you were.

Awesome because I don't need to know how to do anything but play a game with a bunch of geeks who're all mentally 12 years old

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the same.

Yay characters from modern Earth.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
possibly both

good because fantasy, bad because fantasy

i think i could make it though

Likely better in some ways since it's not gender specific. A shirtless man or guy in leather pants is fanservice as much as a titty shot is.

so tell me, meme. where do dw rp newbies go to get answers to all their ridiculous questions? even lurking here with you charming people hasn't brought me any closer to a solution.

Good in some ways, bad in others. He does have a pretty neat world with a decent amount of technology, but bad because there are monsters on the roads and a lot of weird stuff going on.

Now if I could move to a city featured in a later game than my character is in, I'd be a happy camper. Their level of technology is similar to our own.

I now live on Earth with dinosaurs and robot maids and animal people and you can put tanks in your pocket.

I'm pretty good.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Really, it's not going to hurt to ask them here. Some people might be a bit mean, but a lot of the anons are very helpful!

What sort of questions do you have?

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I get to live in a neat sci-fi galactic society. Yeah there's bad shit and corruption but it's not like *I* have to deal with it.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
oh come on

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
i was wondering how people design (function-wise) and use their museboxes in particular. i'm familiar with having a list of your muses with brief stats and their journal links, but i've come across a lot more than that. is there anything that i should especially pay attention to?

and the whole plurking is pretty much new to me as well.

Exactly! It makes no indication of who the fan is, only that the creators included it for the sake of catering to that fan.

I'm fucked beyond belief, my character's world is really shitty, especially in the long term. It's currently in the "Golden Age," which has airships and decent tech, but politically it terrible. There's an empire bent on taking over the shit, amassing power, having the best technology and minimizing the threat of Empire 2 which has war hungry generals, and will jump into war with empire 1. If you happen to live in a minor country out of those empires, you're homeland is either annihilated and totally unlivable, or occupied by the empire, leaving you in poverty, living in the slums with the constant fear that your city will be the next battleground. If you're super duper lucky either you live in a "neutral" state because your government controls unobtanium, or in a small tribe/village with a bunch of people who hate outsiders. Aside from that, there's some so-called "gods" like to "weave" history as they please, and they chose certain royal bloodlines for that.

In the long term this doesn't really matter, because in several hundred/thousand years, a huge cataclysm happens, destroying most of the population, and reverting the technology back to about the 13th century.

But there is magick.

Plurk I can't help with so much since I don't have one personally. But overall design for a musebox is up to you. Some people love to be fancy, others are fine with defaults. All that matters is that it has what you want it to have since it is your personal spot to play with people you invite, so some people may find some things useful that others have no need for. A muselist is good to have, and you'll obviously want posts to play in. Some people also have posts to keep tabs on their verses and PSLs (basically the different types of characters, with one character you may have different settings you play them in, that's a verse. And a PSL is a private story line).

For a muselist, all that is really absolutely needed is the name of the character, what canon they come from, what their journal is, and any games you play them in. Nothing wrong with a text only list, my own is and very out of date at that. But if you want to make it pretty, that's fine as well.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
first of all, thank you for this! it clears up a good part of my confusion. i guess what puzzled me the most is where the actual playing happens with museboxes involved.

Pretty awesome, as long as I don't get abducted by aliens and turned into a dude by their planet's corrupted atmosphere.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah when it's used in the sense of "this is fanservice," yeah it's dumb.

but male gaze is a legit thing that's present in certain canons.

and in b4 someone cries erasure of lesbians, i'm a lesbian and the stuff that caters to men hardly appeals to us, so come the fuck on.
