Okay other OC players, how much disdain am I in for if I make a psuedo-werewolf OC? I feel like I have to assume people will think I'm trying to jump on this Teen Wolf bandwagon, but I've never even seen the thing.

A way to avoid looking like you're jumping on a bandwagon is to do something with your character or their world that is different from what you know of the canon you're afraid of mimicking. I love playing vampire OCs, and I'm sure plenty of people thought I was Twilight-bandwagoning or something when I finally started RPing them, but really, you play what you want for you, not for them.

Just make sure that being a werewolf isn't all there is to your character and that they have a distinct personality. If being a werewolf is the first thing you use to describe them and you don't show how they are a unique/concrete individual, then that's what people will focus on.

It depends on how similar their world is to that canon. You may want to check the series out before you make said character, just to see what someone else has done with the concept. Then you also know what to avoid if you don't want disdain and claims that your OC is just a fandom OC/self-insert in disguise.

Or you could say fuck 'em and make the character anyway, then take your chances with your character being similar to the cast of that franchise. It all depends on how much effort you want to put into the creative process and being unique.
