[M] Life in the dreamhouse

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

If you find their character boring to play against, don't play against them? It's not like they're a canonmate, and their OOCness can affect your ICness.

Better to just ignore it, tbh. If their characterization is that awful and they've been playing for almost a year, either they've already been offered crit and ignored it or no one cares.

I'm not really following how someone else's OOCness can affect your ICness. If your character is reacting off of what is presented to them in a way consistent with who they are and how they ought to react, whether the other character is IC or OOC shouldn't matter. It's not as though your character would be aware that the other person isn't acting like themselves.

I agree with the rest of this, though. Unless the canon is so obscure that you are the only two in game who have seen it, this issue has probably been brought up by someone before.

But if a character is reacting off of what is presented to them in a way consistent with who they are and how they ought to react, they wouldn't be OOC.

If you played Pepper Potts and suddenly found Tony Stark sitting in a puddle of his own tears because he's gained weight and his pants don't fit anymore, it would be OOC of Pepper not to be very confused as to why Tony is acting like that, rather than trying to comfort him.

Most people wouldn't want to even play off of a version of a castmate who is extremely OOC, which would in turn cause Pepper to appear OOC for ignoring Tony's existence. I've seen people get critted for this with chronically inactive or squatting characters as well.

Right, but that's Pepper reacting to someone she actually knows in canon. From what they wrote, it was pretty clear the characters in question weren't canon mates and didn't know one another outside of the game.

If you're canon blind and your character only knows a character through what they have seen over the course of play, your character is not being OOC by not knowing that this person they've been interacting with is behaving uncharacteristically from how they ought to behave.

It's a completely different issue when it comes to castmates.

When I said "It's not like they're a canonmate, and their OOCness can affect your ICness" I meant "because they're not a canonmate, their OOCness can't affect your ability to stay IC, so it's not worth complaining about." Sorry if that was confusing. I'm pretty sure we're all in agreement on the subject.
