I don't think so? Nanako doesn't show up on the Midnight Channel till after the second threat letter is sent (later in the evening after it's recived.) I forget when the first one happens though.

technically, nanako showed up on the midnight channel the night before the second letter showed up. it's just that none of the it figured out it was her.

first letter was october 20th, a little bit after the last day to rescue naoto and immediately after a week of midterms.

Still doesn't make much sense why he'd send the letters. If only Nanako was next, there wouldn't be a chance to disprove Namatames belief that the TV world saved people.

To answer my own question, maybe he just did it to put a new twist on things. The higher the stakes, the more exciting the game. It would fit his MO...

aaaang with a little googling I found this take

"Oh, let's not forget the second letter either. Adachi sent two warning letters. One just happened to be found by Dojima just minutes before Namatame arrived to kidnap Nanako. This leads to Dojima suspecting the MC and taking him to the station, which in turn leaves Nanako wide open. How convenient, eh?"

a point which counters the thought that he didn't want Nanako involved. considering how he went with the IT to make sure they were distracted while Rise was being kidnapped (the peeping tom was a stroke of luck. imo if they hadn't spotted him, Adachi would have found some other means of distraction)

Though perhaps he didn't want Nanako to atually get hurt, believing the team would rescue her in time, her involvement would still make the game more interesting, and hurt Dojima to boot.

that makes a lot more sense. nice hunting.
