Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Concerns?

(Anonymous) 2012-08-20 10:05 am (UTC)(link)Take the things that definitely happen in your chosen game and try to explain why your character did them. To use Leaf, we of course have the whole "taking down Team Rocket" thing. Why did she do this? Was there something specific they did in the game that made her decide she absolutely had to stop them? Was that something that just sort of accidentally happened as she was on her journey and Team Rocket kept just happening to be in her way/kept happening to be doing awful things in her vicinity?
Definitely do what that other anon said and get to know what the region's mood, I guess, is. It doesn't have to be a perfect match (for example just because Johto is known for the traditions involved in a lot of the story doesn't mean Ethan, Lyra, or Kris have to be especially traditional-minded), but try to intentionally pick and choose what your character follows along with and doesn't follow along with and know why. Playing off of this, get an understanding of who your character would have grown up around--so know the Pallet Town characters, in this case. How they react to Leaf is a good indicator of how Leaf is (actually paying attention to how the NPCs treat her is a good rule of thumb in general).
Go through the various choices Leaf would have had to make in the story and figure out which choice she made and why. Which starter, which fossil, which evolution for Eevee (or did she box the Eevee, or did she keep the Eevee in her party as an Eevee?), etc. Did she capture both Snorlax, just one, or just defeat both of them? Did she go out of her way to explore the Power Plant and seek out the legendary birds?
What Pokemon team does she have? Even if the game you're joining doesn't allow all or any of her Pokemon to go with her I think this is one of the most important decisions you can make for a trainer protagonist, and it's definitely something you should know. How the protagonist creates and builds and maintains her team says a lot about her personality. Are they all Pokemon she caught? Does she have the Raticate she caught on her first route in her team even against the Elite Four or does she swap and upgrade? Is her team balanced? Do aesthetics of the Pokemon matter? If you're pulling her late enough, has she done any breeding/are any of her Pokemon evolved out of the standard Kanto evolutions? Does she hoard her TMs or are her Pokemon fully decked out with them? I could probably go on about this forever because I think it's incredibly important given the game is all about raising them.
I think I've rambled enough, but hopefully some of this was helpful!

(Anonymous) 2012-08-21 12:18 am (UTC)(link)One question, though. Do you think it's a good idea to play through one of the games (FR/LG in this case) and make choices I think Leaf would make to get a good feel of what her team and stats would look like? Among other things, of course, but I'm the most confuzzled over what good, actually possible team would look like at the end of the game.
