This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. I can sympathize with you but really the only way you're going to resolve this is to either be really polite direct in expressing your feelings or actually create some kind of conflict to make the CR interesting.

If the other person is as kind and polite and sane sounding as you're making them out to be, I'm sure they'll be very receptive, or their hurt will only be very brief and inconsequential before they move on. (It happens.)

If I were you, I'd do a bit of both. Approach them like, "Hey, sorry for the delay but I've actually been struggling with x thread. It's hard to tell where our characters are going CR-wise without any sort of conflict. Can you think of anything that we could do with them?" Then brainstorm up events, plots, shenanigans and so forth. Depending on the game's scenario maybe do... a body-swap or throw them in some kind of perilous situation where they need to work together to get out of it, or have them go get drunk and spill some of their deep dark secrets only to wake up with a fuzzy recollection of it. Maybe get a third (instigator type) party involved if need be. Figure something interesting out.

If nothing else or you're too arsed and lazy to do that much, then just drop threads and they'll give the hint eventually.
