rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 5,000. "One of our biggest load problems is entries that have a high number of comments -- loading those entries causes a big hit -- and we've been seeing an increase in the number of entries with lots of comments lately. I would also probably keep their names, but then again, I know a lot of people with... interesting... names. (The one I remember best, sadly, is not a spelling one but a pronunciation one. Girl named Jacques. Pronounced "Ja-koy-uh".)

It does help if the setting is one where interesting names would be likely, such as a fantasy or modern American setting. Less so, say, traditional British Victorian, but then you could go with the trolls being from other nations and having the weirdness of their names chalked up to that, if you want. (Also, I think that pretty much all of them would work for a Harry Potter type setting when you consider names such as Sybil Trelawny and Arsenius Jigger being canon.)

Barring that, not all of them are that odd? Aradia is an actual name. I would likely also not bat an eyelash at someone named Kanaya, or Eridan. I'd probably think the parents of someone named Terezi or Tavros were into kreatyv names, but whatevs. Karkat, Vriska and Nepeta are a bit odd, but if the parents were, say, into Hindu astrology for Kar or Vris but thought Karkata sounded too girly or Vrscika would be too hard to spell/pronounce, or maybe into botany for Nepeta and thought it would be cutesy to use part of the name for catnip when their last name means lion. About the only ones that strike me as really odd are Sollux and Feferi. Though Equius I can't figure out how to justify either...
