Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 5,000. "One of our biggest load problems is entries that have a high number of comments -- loading those entries causes a big hit -- and we've been seeing an increase in the number of entries with lots of comments lately. If even a few high-traffic journals or communities started opening new posts when comments reached 2000 or 2500 instead of letting the post run until it hit the maximum number of comments, it would definitely help." - DW_News

Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

all the defensive bullshit going around is getting on my nerves. don't like how the anime handles kanji's and naoto's ~issues~, don't watch it. i mean it, just stop associating yourself with it and you're good to go. does anyone remember that p4 originates from japan? generally, the country is more tolerant of the issues presented in p4, but it's very discreet and those involved prefer to keep to themselves. japanese views =/= western views.

tl;dr stop fucking whining about sj and realize it's a fucking cartoon.

My main problem with how people react to Naoto is that a lot of her issues, IIRC stem from Japanese culture. She's not trans--she's a girl who wanted to be taken seriously in her field, and unfortunately, she grew up seeing only men being taken seriously in that line of work, so it led to a lot of confusion and issues.

As well, Kanji isn't... Exactly... Homosexual. He has hobbies (cooking and sewing) that conflict with the typical view of manliness. Combine that with his attraction to Naoto and he was very unsure of his own sexuality because of stereotypes.

At least, that's what I always took out of the characters, even in the game.

Kanji is homosexual, or at the very least bisexual with a heavy preference for males. Atlas made it 'more subtle' for the English release, but they still left in Kanji's 'the other me is me' line at the end of the Social Link.

where the fuck did you get 'kanji is gay' from. i'm tired of fucking seeing this. replay the game the leave your headcanon out of it. try looking for the underlying meaning this time.

shadow kanji didn't result from kanji questioning his sexuality, he resulted from kanji wanted to be accepted by guys and gals alike. naoto meeting him around that time was really rather convenient and lead kanji and the party to believe he may be gay.

'heavy preference for males'? now that's just silly. you do remember the bathing suit scene during the school camping trip, don't you? and how kanji turns to jello around naoto even after they learn she's a girl? and no, i'm not only referring to the anime.

One thing about the Shadows that the game doesn't make very clear is that while yes, they do stem from the problems the person is dealing with, it does not mean that everything they say is the 100% truth. They embellish and exaggerate the issue. For example, Shadow Yosuke says that Yosuke was a whiny kid who was bored and resentful of Inaba, which was true, but he also claims that Yosuke didn't care at all about Saki, which we know isn't the truth. Why do the shadows do this? Because they're on TV. People are watching them on the Midnight Channel. People want to see these hidden insecurities and flaws, so they play it up for the audience.

While a Shadow is a representation of a person's issues, they can't be taken completely at face value.

Yosuke even said as much just before they fought Shadow Kanji. It wasn't absolutely everything on his mind, it was his emotions flying out of control.

The nugget of truth was Kanji's fear of rejection. That's why his shadow at the end was so pitiful, begging for someone, anyone, to accept him.
