Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 5,000. "One of our biggest load problems is entries that have a high number of comments -- loading those entries causes a big hit -- and we've been seeing an increase in the number of entries with lots of comments lately. If even a few high-traffic journals or communities started opening new posts when comments reached 2000 or 2500 instead of letting the post run until it hit the maximum number of comments, it would definitely help." - DW_News

So how many people who don't know the mods got in, challenged or no

I don't know the mods and I was worried because my app was one of the shorter ones, but I got in just fine.

I didn't app myself, but a friend of mine apped two characters this round, doesn't know either of the mods, and both characters were accepted no problem.

I do not know the mods and both of my characters were accepted without revisions.

A friend and I apped together this round without knowing the mods - we're not even familiar with Persona - and we got in without revisions.

I don't know the mods. The one character I apped was a challenge; I won.

I think whether or not they were challenged would be a pretty big point. There is no reason not to let them in if they aren't taking a spot from a friend.

But I've been working to stay out of this since both sides here aren't exactly shiny. Just pointing out the flaw in that logic.

cool

new question

so how many of you are okay with knowing that if there's ever a dispute, your mods are going to immediately side with their friends

(Anonymous) 2012-02-07 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
this bothers me a lot too. just because you maybe got into the game without mod favoritism doesn't mean they won't exclude you in plots or never take your side if something goes wrong. basically you better start kissing their ass and sucking their RP-dick or you're fucked!

totally a game i would want to be in...

Part of the reason I didn't join Caligo (even though I was planning to, had my reserve in and my app started and everything) was concerns over how the plots looked exclusionary from the beginning. I remember being really concerned about the parts that mentioned that you might not get to face your shadow or get your persona (which... I thought was the point?), and not all characters were allowed in the Velvet Room*.

The other part was that when I looked at what some of the apps looked like? I knew I would never be able to make an adequate persona/ability section so I said screw it.

*Though that part is actually apparently game canon? I've only played the PSP remake of Persona 1 where all characters are seen in the Velvet Room but in P4 apparently only those with the Fool(?) Arcana can enter or something like that. It doesn't help the persona/shadow thing though.

Yeah, not everyone entering the Velvet Room is canon in the later Persona games. In P1/2, everyone has a different natural arcana, but they're all able to use multiple Personae and change at will, and your whole party will enter the Velvet Room together and you manage Personae for all of them. But in 3/4, the main character is Fool and is the only one who can switch, because they're said to have the "wild card," and everyone else is some other arcana and only has their one Persona, which can evolve later in the game when they have a big personal revelation.

It's probably actually the change I really hate about P3/4, because it just seems to really go against one of my favorite things about the first games - the whole theme that we all wear many masks, and each Persona is representative of one of them. :/

you might not get to face your shadow or get your persona (which... I thought was the point?)

Shit, really? What the hell do you even DO in a Persona game if you don't get a chance to face yourself and earn a Persona? Become one of the gossipy NPCs wandering around?

If you choose to face their Shadow in the TV World, there are no guarantees when this will happen, or even that it will happen. The pros to this option are if you do this, you will be able to set up an entire rescue plot surrounding your character’s inner issues and play out your Shadow and/or dungeon designs in game plot time.

They don't guarantee it, so I'm assuming that means that some people just... won't. Which makes literally no sense to me. I asked, at the same time I asked about the Velvet Room, why that would be a concern, like if a mod had to run it, you had to have a certain plot day for your dungeon to appear, etc, but while they explained the Velvet Room they didn't say a thing to answer my question about the shadows. At the time I didn't press the issue, but that was before apps were even open so I thought it would all be handled appropriately. Since the app stuff went down, I'm no longer so sure.

Source is the FAQ by the way, under the question "Can I have my character go through that? Do I have to have them face their Shadow? What if they wouldn’t accept their Shadow even with encouragement? Do I have to play a Persona-less character?" if you want to read it and interpret what it means for yourself.

Yeah, I have to agree re: the Shadow thing. The chance to play out a character facing their Shadow was a huge draw for me when I was first checking out this game, so when I found the entry in the FAQ saying it wasn't a guarantee, I was pretty disappointed.
