Temporary Change
: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 2,000 - 2,500 comments. "One of our biggest load problems is entries that have a high number of comments -- loading those entries causes a big hit -- and we've been seeing an increase in the number of entries with lots of comments lately. If even a few high-traffic journals or communities started opening new posts when comments reached 2000 or 2500 instead of letting the post run until it hit the maximum number of comments, it would definitely help." - DW_News

The problem is that things HAVE changed since 2008. It's gotten bad. There's cliques out the whoa, if you want to run a plot be friends with the mods, plots have gotten stale/repetitive, a lot of the good blood's left, etc. etc. These structural problems weren't always there, they're just coming out full force now.

"a lot of the good blood's left"

As a relatively new player, it absolutely shits me that so many old players whine about how shitty the game is and how full of "bad blood" it is and then turn around and complain that we don't have enough new players. Boy, I know I do love reading shit like this! We've had some marvelous players come in in the last six months, and I'm not including myself there, but it seems to me that all these awesome newbies go totally fucking unappreciated in favor of oldie snarling and backbiting.

Here's a thought: if you want more new players, try learning to not actively drive them away, first.

I know terrific new players. Um. What's 'new' as a definition? People who haven't been at TLV for a year?

Seriously. I love some of the players that have come in during the past six months.

IAWTC. I haven't been in the game since 2008, but I've been here long enough that I'm definitely not considered a newbie anymore. We've lost good blood...and we've gained new good blood. There are some awesome newbies and awesome oldbies who are still in the game and awesome...middle-agebies?...and with luck we'll continue to get more awesome newbies. Good players come and go and that's just how it is in a long running game.

Here's a thought: Suggest plots. You never know what you'll see in the future if you don't.
