Take this with a grain of salt since it's been years since I watched TTGL, but one of the staples about Rossiu that I remember is that he is VERY DEDICATED. If he believes in something or feels like something is his responsibility, he will devote all he can to it. One of his hugest flaws is that he takes responsibility for everything onto his shoulders and thus the weight of success/failure. It's a lot of pressure and he doesn't manage stress as well as he should, which leads to mistakes later on. He can be pessimistic, but also realistic, trying to look at the big picture and figure out how to plan for the worst possible outcomes in life, whereas people like say Simon are more idealistic. That doesn't mean that he cares any LESS (just differently), only that his methods differ despite them both having similar goals.

Rossiu doesn't "give up" even though in shounen series terms it make look that way. It's more than he sees the give and take and is the one willing to make those very very tough choices that other people wouldn't be able to. At the same time, Rossiu doesn't have the same kind of faith that Simon does, at least not until the VERY VERY END of the series. He's been burned by faith already and is less willing to just believe in things and wants facts, reality, obvious truths. Whereas Simon believes with his heart, Rossiu has to believe it with his head because he doesn't let his heart play factor into majority of his decisions.

Rossiu is a thinker, planner, and a learner. Knowledge is everything to him. If he can study it, then Rossiu believes he can understand it and maybe even control it. The problem with this is that if he CAN'T learn everything there is to know about something, he tends to look at it as dangerous/a threat and will be forever wary of it. And if a threat arises that he can't figure out with all his usual methods, he loses a lot of the composure he normally keeps because it's already a failure in his eyes. He doesn't know what to do and not knowing what to do makes him panic.

And like I said, it's been years, but this is what I remember of Rossiu from when I watched TTGL. If any of this is incorrect, someone please say so.
