I wouldn't go that far. I skimmed through the apps but they seemed pretty similar as far as characterization points covered. I think it was a close call, but the fact that the winning app put more detail into the Persona aspects and wrote a better sample is probably why it was chosen.

I'm going to have to disagree. The mun seemed to buy Dave's cover--that is, that he's actually cool and that nothing phases him. Things DO bother him, and deeply, and it's made obvious in a lot of the pesterlogs. When part of the winning app says: "One thing to make him different than the other three (except Rose, most likely) is Dave's ability to not be fazed by most things."

This isn't true. Almost all of the characters see right through that. Terezi and Rose call him on it, but you could even argue Jade notices and just doesn't push it. They glossed over the fear of death thing, too, which is a driving point of Dave's character and his entire arc, for that matter.

Also, Dave doesn't say "fuck" every five seconds.

i'm also going to have to disagree. dave isn't actually cool. it's a mask he wears that is pretty easy to see through. the winning app seems to believe dave is seriously as cool as he makes himself out to be but that's completely wrong. it is just... so very, very wrong.

also the app was had an obvious shipping biased to me. dave telling rose he loved john as a joke (and yes it was clearly a joke) isn't an important aspect to his personality. why was it there? why was it linked?

I should have been more clear: It wasn't in the app, but the shipping bias certainly was there. I'm saying that she plays him as gay because I know someone who's played with her, so this could be untrue.

I recall she plurked about how she plays him as gay when she was in Soul Campaign. She was completely serious.

I'm not trying to pick sides here, but I personally can see Dave being gay in canon. Or at least bisexual. I think as long as they don't play for ships there shouldn't be an issue with it?

Yeah, I can see the bisexual aspect, too, but I think it falls back to the insecurity issue: Would Dave REALLY be comfortable in his sexuality? And anyway, how many 13 year olds are comfortable with their sexuality? Certainly there are some, but I don't know many.

Canon does not support it. I can see where you're coming from but if canon doesn't support it then you need to develop it yourself. You can't just say "By the way I play him gay" and then do so when canon doesn't support you. If you want him to be gay build on the idea in your game.

that's not how homosexuality works

I think they mean since canon doesn't say he's gay and he actually seems to deny it, you'd have to develop him admitting it to himself/others/realizing it/whatever.
