Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.

Temporary Change
: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 2,000 - 2,500 comments. "One of our biggest load problems is entries that have a high number of comments -- loading those entries causes a big hit -- and we've been seeing an increase in the number of entries with lots of comments lately. If even a few high-traffic journals or communities started opening new posts when comments reached 2000 or 2500 instead of letting the post run until it hit the maximum number of comments, it would definitely help." - DW_News

why don't they just make a new comment cap themselves

Probably to see if a suggestion will do the work for them.

probably because they're working to fix the problem and it would be more difficult to change the comment cap for the whole site just for a little while

idgaf if it changes forever

but that's still a weird thing to do because they're no guarantee most of the userbase will listen/care/see it. if you want your load lightened, guarantee it will be

IMO? It's because they know their userbase will bitch if they just randomly implement a change like that. It doesn't matter if it's for the good of the site as a whole, or how much it impacts usability (it really doesn't), people will find some way to have a problem with it.

They haven't said that the site can't/won't function if people don't cap comments at 2000/2500.

They've said that they're working to optimize the site and address the problem and if people want to help in the meantime making new posts around the 2500 mark is something they can do.

Why the fuck should that be so hard to understand?

Re: da

reasons that nerdiness carries any shame in a community of people who analyse fictional characters to reproduce their behavior in a convincing manner:

not seeing 'em

They said they were considering it, actually. But yeah, it's probably to avoid pissing people off by arbitrary change. First they tell us there's an issue and try a less obtrusive way to alleviate it, then if that doesn't work they do the more obtrusive route but at least we knew in advance.
