[D] Haa. Haa. Haa.

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I hope this game dies because of the shitty mods and that the players create a bigger/better game.

ngl, the moment it happens anon, i for one will be so ready to help set that bigger/better game up and even mod it. they've been stating from the start 'the game closes when i get bored of it', which is basically like saying 'i'm god and i can do what i want regardless as to what other people care or think because i'm that much more important than everyone else' and it really just doesn't sit well with me at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-04 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
god I hope I have no CR with you.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-04 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
why? i'm not saying i hope it does, and i'm not saying i want it to. i'm hoping that the current mods (and when i say this i really mean the one mod who's actually running the show) actually come to their senses and realize that it's a horrible attitude to have towards a game. if you don't want to run a game anymore but a whole mass of people are obviously enjoying it, for the love of god turn it over to someone who does want to run it, don't close it. just because a person is the creator of a game doesn't mean that they should have supreme power over whether it lives or dies, especially if the playerbase still very much wants to keep going with it.

So much this. There are numerous other games whose creators have left and turned over the setting to other mods. And those games continue to thrive years later.

Closing this game down just because the one remaining original mod doesn't want to play in it is like saying WELL IF I CAN'T HAVE FUN IN IT NO ONE ELSE CAN EITHER >( and that's just silly. If it's too much to handle or it's not fun, let other people take the reins!

But anon, that's not how they intended it to be ~

Like it would really make any difference to them at all if the game went on with new mods. The setting isn't even something they made, it's based on a comic.

I'm sure that even if they absolutely won't hand over the communities to new mods someone else could make new ones to continue on in the setting. Some people probably wouldn't join on principle, but there would probably also be new people who wanted to join who were prevented when the app process got screwed with to prevent growth.

I actually would join a game with the same setting and premise with mods who weren't dick bags about apps and didn't arbitrarily decide which head canon they'd accept on sexuality and which they wouldn't.

The setting isn't even what they started with. When BN first opened it was a gritty urban fantasy-type game. Now it's some kind of supernatural/magic thing with a (mostly abandoned) pseudo-Abrahamic metaplot.

after the zombies a summer or two ago, idefk what happened. I think a mini-event with magic or magic creatures is what changed everything. It just stuck.

i get hating to be in limbo. my desire to stick around because of this weird half mast thing going on is dwindling.

but the sense of entitlement of mods have to continue on even when they don't want to or have to hand it over so others can take over is crap. yes, the creator does have control over the game. they don't have a right to delete what we put in or stop us from continuing after they are done in another way. but they 100% have the right to shut down this version of the game whenever they want because they made it and got it started.

i don't think the current mods response to just avoid problem is a good plan of action either, i am not saying that. but at this point, if she wants to just shut it down, it'd probably be for the best. let people take what they want and make their own play grounds, since no one seems happy with this one.

i see your point, anon, and you're right. mods don't have to hand a game over. but i also think that it's common courtesy for the mods to take the players' feelings into account in their final decisions, rather than making broad statements that they're not going to even consider their playerbase. that having been said, if she does shut down, i don't see the harm in the playerbase coming together, picking up, and continuing in their wake. it's happened with other games in the past, and more than anything, i would think it flattering for the original mods to know that people want to continue the thing that they spent so much time and effort creating. so no, although you chose to use the word, i don't think it's entitled to want the mods to consider others in their decision. even if they still choose to close rather than go on, just the fact that they're being considerate of others would be better. perhaps not ideal, but definitely better.

(Anonymous) 2012-06-05 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
i fully support starting your own thing, and i do think they should consider that but modding is not easy. it's stressful and time consuming, and although i don't think you meant it to be, your original comment more so than the ideas in your comment came across as entitled and demanding, especially given the tone of discourse here and at that other meme. the comments since, less so.

honestly, at this point, i think BN as it is closing and something new coming out would be better. there just seems like there's too much poison in the water and no one is happy, it saddens me a lot. and if people do step forward, i wish them well.
