[D] Haa. Haa. Haa.

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

I don't think it's obsessive to see something and say, "Hey is this IC or what?"

One of the problems I think scorched has is the lack of game-wide HMD where these concerns can be brought up and aired out, especially when people aren't comfortable approaching the muns in question on their personal HMD.

Huh. I could've sworn that they did one but apparently not. That's actually incredibly strange.

I thought so too, but I realized they only run a monthly cr-meme and nothing else.

The majority of the issues I've seen even brought up here could be solved with just an HMD meme put up once a month where people could go to bring up their concerns instead of coming here with them.

Actually, the monthly CR/plotting meme is currently run by a player, not a mod.

The game used to have regular CR and HMD memes posted by the mod journal before the playerbase grew, but they were barely used (literally pages of "how's my driving?" with no replies or only compliments) so they were discontinued. Most characters have a HMD in their journal, all of which are linked on the Taken Characters page.

Maybe, now that the game's gotten pretty huge, they should give the HMD a try again.

You're welcome to bring it up with them in a venue where they'll see it, such as the mod contact. The mod team are busy to a man but I'm sure if there's player interest in bringing the HMD back they'd think about it.

Yeah, obsessive is probably not the word I was looking for.

I just like for people to have fun. I guess I'm willing to be a little more lenient when it comes to some things IC so long as people are enjoying themselves.

In my past experiences, game-wide HMD's don't really work the way they're intended to. I've been on several games that have them, and 99% of the time people praise each other in public and still bash each other in private anyway.

RP is a collaborative hobby. I get that people are having fun, but if their fun is affecting someone else's fun, then that's really not cool. Staying IC is a part of playing in a game, otherwise just stick to a musebox where it's just you and your RP partner.

I've had nothing but good experiences with game-wide HMDs. I can't speak to whether or not people still have issues they harp on about in private, but I know that at least there's public mention of problematic behavior where the mods can not only monitor it, but also see it and note recurring issues and take action where necessary. I don't think scorched has many areas where these things are necessary, but obviously judging on the comments I've seen cropping up here and on acj, it seems there is at least enough to merit some sort of attention.

Well that's the thing, I don't know, is it effecting someone else's fun? Or do the anons bringing it up have nothing to do with those characters directly and are just gossiping for the sake of gossiping?

If you're in the cast that's one thing, but if you're just going, hey I read your post and though we've never met IC and have no CR to speak of I just don't approve of your actions--that's just lame and people should mind their own business.

I suppose if the cast on the game was fine with it then people should let it drop, right? And please don't speak anon for cast. Being anon doesn't really give you any way of backing up your statements.

Maybe a game-wide HMD would solve that question though, since the cast could publicly say how they feel about it.

No, I'm not a member of either cast, but I do think when someone joins a panfandom game they subject themselves to people speculating upon whether or not their character is IC or not? I may not have direct CR with someone, but if I'm familiar with the canon and find their interpretation questionable, then I or anyone else who might be scrolling by have as much right as anyone else to ask for explanation.
