[D] Haa. Haa. Haa.

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

that's old testament though, isn't it? not... what Christians follow anymore.

besides, there is a difference between "a passage in my holy book states that homosexuality is wrong" and "I agree with the passage in my holy book that states that homosexuality is wrong" and the impression I've gotten is that Maka-mun is the latter (can correct me if I'm wrong tho). ultimately, however nicely you want to couch it in terms of judgement versus personal beliefs, if you believe homosexuality is wrong you're still homophobic. just like if your holy book claims that people of some skin tone are inferior and wrong, and you believe your book but claim to not "judge" people of that skin tone, you're still a racist.

Feels weird when I have to tell fellow Christians that Jesus' new covenant with God rendered the entire Old Testament null and void and replaced it with "love everyone with all your heart".

Dictating to people what they should believe about their religion is discrimination against their beliefs.

See how you can do that with anything?

This argument is ridiculously stupid. Jesus himself told his followers to disregard the Old Testament.

missing the point tho

Christians aren't an oppressed minority. There is no point. Homophobia is not and never will be on the same level as telling a Christian to be more Jesus-like.

If she doesn't rub it in people's faces and actively pick on homosexuals, does it really matter what she believes?

I'm talking as a member of the LGBTQ here. I have every right to believe God doesn't exist and that gay people should be married. Someone else has every right to believe the exact opposite. Actions and words are the things that can become dangerous or hurtful, but belief in and of itself? I think it's unfair to fight for freedom for all, then turn around and tell someone that they can't/shouldn't believe what they believe.

I actually agree with you. But I don't think this is the point the anon I replied to was trying to make, in implying that telling Christians at all that they shouldn't be homophobic is somehow a form of discrimination, when it's not.

That wasn't my point.

My point was you can attribute labels like homophobia, racism and religious discrimination effortlessly without it actually meaning anything.

Thinking homosexuals will go to hell isn't strictly homophobia, it is just your belief in how the universe works. Same as Catholics who believe in using condoms.

"Thinking homosexuals will go to hell isn't strictly homophobia"

Except it is. I'm not sure how it can be viewed any other way. Homophobia isn't just words or actions, but thoughts and beliefs, too. Is it mostly harmless? I guess so, but it's still homophobia.

"Thinking homosexuals will go to hell isn't strictly homophobia"

I'm sorry, but if someone believes that people are supposed to suffer endless torment because they're attracted to the same gender... how is that in any way NOT homophobia?

I'm not telling Sani what she should or shouldn't believe. I'm not Christian, idgaf if she believes in the first three pages of the bible and alternating chapters after that. I AM saying that what she believes makes her homophobic. Whether or not this bothers people, given that she isn't vocal about it, it up to them.

Calling someone homophobic for their beliefs =/= telling them what to believe.
