[D] Haa. Haa. Haa.

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

I'm going to second pretty much everything anon before me has said, especially Simonson's run and the Sif one-shot.

The thing to remember is that Sif came in the issue Jane was punted back to Earth by Odin as a replacement love interest and a lot of the stuff she appears in early on suffer from ye old silver age values. And as much as the runs between Simonson and JMS are horrible for pretty much everyone in Thor, it does include Sif's relationship with Eric Masterson. Which, even though it's terrible for everyone involved, should be read because he is one of (two) people besides Thor she's felt some romantic attachment to.

The latter half of v2 is something that no one but Thor would remember (except for Ragnarok) but imo its got a number of good Sif moments that are worth checking out as well.

I'm not particularly fond of the current run on Thor for a number of reasons, but suffice to say that Fraction's treatment of Sif veers from badass to borderline ooc, especially in the way she and Thor interact.

I hope that helps, anon!

This helps so much thank you!

Can I just ask what you do in regards to their childhood/the golden hair myth? I know I've read a few different takes on these stories myself. In comics, I mean.

Not a problem!

Normally with something that contradictory I leave it up to a general 'this happened at some point in time' but personally I tend to go with Loki cutting it off when they're preteens/teens out of jealousy and spite and it turning to black because he didn't pay the dwarves. I imagine vanity was a huge part of her hatred over the end result, but rather than her parents shipping her off to warrior training because of it I have Sif either being enrolled in it beforehand or some time soon after the fact of her own free will.

With things like that, it's exceedingly hard to figure out what's canon and what isn't - the Avengers Origins: Thor has a different way of telling it and showing the relationship between Thor, Sif, and Loki than Tales of Asgard does (like excluding Balder from their triangle of friendship). Your best bet is to pick something that you feel works with the rest of established canon and works for you and whatever castmates you may or may not have! Everyone understands the pains of playing from comics, so don't ever feel like there's only one right way of doing it.

Oh cool! That's actually what I use for MCU!Sif, from what I read in comics.

Thanks so much for the tips! :)
