[D] Haa. Haa. Haa.

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Navigate:

Hey! Do not post anything outside of these threads. It will be deleted.
Go be cute and fun and fun and funny over here.

the stereotypical big, brunette, frizzy hair and big nose comes to mind. The fact that SHE'S A JEW AND A WEREWOLF GUYS is side eye worthy as well.

trek herself is as obnoxious as they come. i especially liked her comments that players in mayfield who don't get comments on their posts straight up don't have any friends.

stay classy.

I'd hate to be a bother, anon, but I'd really appreciate it if you could extrapolate a bit. I'd love nothing more than to improve.

(Though, about the whole "big nose" thing, that's just kinda how Zilon, who was kind enough to create my original set of icons, draws noses.)

You've poked fun at her big nose before soooooo...no, it's not solely the artist's fault.

Your character is offensive because you haven't put much thought to her characterization beyond SHE'S A JEW AND A WEREWOLF YOU GUYS!!! You're playing a gimmick, not a fully-fledged character.

I'm sorry, I can't recall ever doing so. I've poked fun at her big hair in the past, because it's 80s and ridiculous-- though that brings up another point, the whole frizzy thing. I wouldn't really call it frizzy, personally, there's just a great deal of it. She's a werewolf; they're hairy. That's what I was aiming for.

She's much more than a Jew and a werewolf, anon-- she's also a lesbian! But, I kid. I do try to show multiple facets of her personality-- her insecurity over being considered "monstrous" and her desire to protect and help her friends despite being wholly unable to recognize their social cues, as a few examples of her non-angry idiot personality traits-- much as I do with all the characters I play. If I've failed at this, I'm sorry, but I've gone for two years without any complaints except for one odd little tiff over her vulgarity. I'll be sure to consider and put into action any and all criticisms you have.

are you seriously calling her offensive just because of how her hair and nose look? really? i'm a jew and i don't find annie offensive at all. don't speak for everyone.

As am I. Bigass hair, a big honking nose and getting compared to wild animals has been a staple in stereotyping and persecuting Jewish people for a long fucking time.

okay, but don't act like you speak for every jew when you say these things because you certainly do not.

Uh, I wasn't the one who waved hir bigass "BUT I'M A JEW AND I'M NOT OFFENDED" flag, as if your inability to be offended somehow means the rest of us can't be offended.

i never said that??? i only said that you can't speak for everyone. that is literally what i wrote. learn to read.

also, that isn't what 'sa' should be used for. you want 'ayrt' in this situation, because 'sa' implies that you're the same anon as the one you're replying to, as if amending what you wrote.

Really? Fran Drescher must piss you the hell off then.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-28 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
But Fran Drescher IS Jewish. Her incorporation of stereotypes into her routine is a form of reclamation. Same with other Jewish comedy mogels like Mel Brooks, Milton Berle, Billy Crystal, Judy Gold, and Jackie Mason. Self-depreciation is a long standing attribute of Jewish comedy. However, as far as I know, Trek isn't Jewish. That's where the problem lies. If she IS Jewish, well... idk why we're having this conversation.

I can see where you're coming from on the nose and hair, but I think you're looking too deep into the werewolf thing
