Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-27 12:17 am (UTC)(link)Prose is supposed to resemble the writing in books. Books generally do not do this if they're not shitty books. You might not want to go cracking jokes in narration everywhere if you're playing some Steely McGrimdude but don't be afraid to have a narrative voice. If your character is interesting, and has an interesting point of view, and you understand them, that should be doable.
This advice is kind of shitty but "writing" is an incredibly broad term and I don't know what aspect of it the OP is talking about, so I thought I'd throw in an observation I've been sitting on because it seemed relevant. If the OP wants to clarify I could maybe try to get more specific.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-27 01:28 am (UTC)(link)Unless your character is the type to always have a wisecrack for any given situation, the dialogue/narration should reflect that. But if your character would see molten lava covering a village as The Blob gobbling down bit-part citizens, for heaven's sake, say it! Don't be afraid to add spice to your writing for the sake of "correctness."
Also, vary your sentence length. I've noticed many players (myself included) feel their sentences have to be long in order to be worthwhile when that's not the case at all.
Finally, take hints from writers and players you like! Try picking apart their tags to see what draws you to them. Is it their wording? How about sentence structure? Once you know what appeals to you, you can start incorporating that into your own RPing.
