This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. We are talking about giant goddamn Sovereign-class Reapers descending over each zone, razing the ground with their angry red eye lasers and bellowing about how their numbers will darken the sky.

Weren't we complaining a while back about the terribly grimdark events?

I can't see how this would work out from an in character perspective, either. Where would the Reapers come from? I've been under the impression that Singularity's universe is disconnected from canon universes, except through the rift. How would characters even defeat the Reapers? Sovereign class warships are brutally difficult to take down. Shepard was only able to take one down on foot because they had the entire quarian fleet behind them. Do our characters have that kind of firepower? We've also got power nerfs to think about. Does the station have the kind of defenses and weaponry necessary to defeat one? Even if we defeat them all, Reaper corpses are still terrifyingly active. Dead gods can dream, after all, and the indoctrination process is irreversible unless characters get reset through teleporter respawn.

Don't get all my nitpicking wrong, though. This is an event I'd probably give my left eye to play out. There's just a lot to think about.

I think the complaint was more about "some inanimate object/event takes over the station, kills a bunch of people and inflicts trauma, QQ" a key difference would be that this was something very tangible and sentient that could be fought against, I think? Obviously, this'd be a very dark event just because of the nature of the Reapers, but I think it'd be different. If I'm wrong, someone can feel free to correct me, but I still feel strongly that it'd be a very good event for the game if done right.

As to the other things,
1) Where the Reapers would come from is the biggest obstacle in the way of doing this plot, and it's something I'm thinking hard about. The best thing I can think of at the moments is "Collectors arrive -> collect the shit out of the Sacrosanct residents -> Make a Reaper (or Reapers) in the station." I imagine Reapers take a really long time to build, and even if there are facilities to flash-clone stuff (which could make for plenty of easy troops at least, Reaperized trolls, mutants, etc.), Sacrosanct's population is far, far too small to create a true Sovereign-class Reaper. Maybe they would have to be smaller than they are in the games, but they could still be big and fearsome and make that horn noise as they land everywhere.
2) All the ones Shepard killed on foot were Destroyer-class, not Sovereign-class, the Sovereign-class ships are actually even worse than that and are literally like two kiloemeters long. I was using a touch of hyperbole there when I said there should be one for each zone, more than one true Reaper at Harbinger or Sovereign's size would probably be too much.
3) Probably the easiest way to deal with that would be to make it clear what a dead Reaper is capable of during the course of the plot so they were all spaced to hell afterwards.

The way I'm looking at it, there are a few core elements to this plot that appeal to people. The presence of multiple Reapers replicating some of the atmosphere from Mass Effect 3, the presence of Collectors, the potential for characters to be Indoctrinated, characters getting to fight against the Reapers and having opportunities to have badass actions scenes. If those core elements are intact, stuff like the actual size of the Reapers and whether they're the original Reapers from the Mass Effect universe or they're crated on the station is able to be toyed with somewhat to serve the purposes of the plot actually being able to happen.

At least, that's how I've been thinking about it. I hope it makes sense to other people.

We had the Phazon effects reset themselves, and some of that sounded like it should be irreversible. I guess there's a precedent for handwaving indoctrination "wearing off" after?

I really want a stationwide paintball war event a la Community. Like all out war, alliances, traitors, "death" scenes when someone gets covered in paint...

I don't have any characters who would do that though. Having talked to the mods they seem to love the idea, it just can't be Hypatia who offers the ridiculous prize everyone fights over.

I've got a couple of non-grimdark plot ideas.

[Random Teleportation]
Teleporters are malfunctioning; people step in, and get randomly teleported to somewhere in the station (on top of a building, into an occupied shower, those kind of things). Not only that, but they keep teleporting randomly, and without warning until the teleporters are fixed; some people every few hours, others once or twice a day, still others once every few minutes.

[Everyone Gets Superpowers]
Mostly self-explanitory, everyone get a superpower for the duration of the event; super strength, flight, eye lazers, ect. You can go for more creative powers of course, but whatever power you get must revolve around a single concept, i.e. no trying to be Silver Age Superman. The catch is that no one knows what power they got until they stumble upon it, and if they had powers before, they somehow don't work anymore until the end of the event.

[Truth Event]
For the duration of the event, no one can lie. At all. To the point where, when asked a direct question, it would take extreme effort just to not answer the question.

Doesn't seem to stem from any one source (any moreso than the circumstances in this game would cause someone to want to drop normally, anyway), though I'm a little weirded out that two separate people both used the band-aid analogy.

Oh, it's probably cause AC is in about three days and they don't have enough for the new rules?

Wonder if anybody's gonna get hit by that - it's not particularly hard to make, but you can't coast through it anymore, which I think quite a few people were doing.

As one of the drops: I actually had way more than enough for the new AC. But I have been waffling about staying in the game or dropping for months now and finally came to a decision.

There's nothing really ominous about the analogy. I've had to do that with a game before. It's sometimes hard to make yourself quit a game you've been at a while, even when the drive is fading.

I talk to multiple people OOC who have dropped characters and/or the game, and there's no specific drama or issue with the game to blame. It's mostly just life catching up to people or interests changing in terms of RP.

More drops will likely happen now that certain characters have left. There's nothing foul afoot in the game, IC or OOC, to blame for it.
