There is no way to tell if someone else has already apped a character no one had reserved. Since a reserve is not required for an app (nor should it be IMO) someone could have apped the character already. It could have been sitting in the queue for days before I start mine.

They can do what they want, but it's courtesy to let your players know if there's some new going on. I'm just curious as to why.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Also, I know a lot of people who are interested in a game, myself included, look at the apps page to see what sort of things mods are looking for in your app. Not that this is needed or necessary, but it's nice.

At least Mai and Fubuki kept it to one series.

as the person who commented to the faq asking about it, i don't see the point of it either and it does seem like something that should've been mentioned. the mods don't have to bring up every miniscule change they make but it isn't as if screening apps is so commonplace in games that the change to doing so shouldn't be mentioned at all

But that's not what they said. They voiced their concerns (anonymously, yes) respectfully and non-aggressively. The mods themselves acknowledged there's a problem that needs to be fixed, there's no need to get this defensive over a difference of opinion.

Thanks for the kind words, anon! I do feel responsible for this part of it though, and for tag-dropping in general.

Thing is, the way I see it:

The characters are predisposed, understandably, to distrust the Initiative. Therefore, if the Initiative tries to impose organization on them from the top down, they'll be resentful. It's better for the players to make the characters organize into cohesive units of their own volition.

The roommate assignments are a good start, but we need to move beyond that. I loved Sophia's boat trip to the United Earth. Maybe we could do more stuff like that?

If nothing else, Anders could keep on throwing open house parties for mages and anyone who likes mages and anyone who likes pie (i.e., anyone).

i don't really care what they do. the apping/reserve point above is a good one, but how likely is it in a small game like this that two people would shoot for the same character in the span of a few days? and as far as i can tell the pros they gave on the faq page outweigh that potential inconvenience.

On the other hand, I'd rather see a game screen apps than do the kind of thing Multiversal is currently getting roasted for. (Players dissing apps or prospective applicants in a mod plurk)

There should be a happy medium. I would be happy with successful apps being UNscreened so that new app writers can see what a good Exsilly app looks like, and maybe a list of pending apps in the app post while the pending apps themselves stay screened.

It's a small game now. It didn't use to look so small. It doesn't have to stay small.

I don't think there's the same potential to happen in Exsilly as there would be in Multiversal. That wasn't the app page they're getting wanked about, iirc, but their potential appers page.

But I do like that idea, about unscreening accepted apps. That's a good medium.

multiversal is a shitty game imo and not representative of how most people behave when apps are left unscreened, but ia that rejections being screened is a good idea.
