Put the bunny back in the box

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Yeah, it's definitely hard work and dangerous work at that. And honestly, even if they pay the workers real well, it's not shit compared to what the bigwigs rake in.

You get judged/rejected for having short hair that's easy to keep clean and dry and isn't an OSHA hazard like long hair is for so many jobs?

What kind of fucked up job market is this?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 06:51 am (UTC)(link)
It's a dumb prejudice to have to deal with in general but there are way worse things that can happen to a person, so yeah. Some people will just whine over anything.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
that is gross and rude of those employers

It's okay. I'm a no-advice kind of person when I want to vent which is why I didn't rant on my plurk. My friends are all wonderful and offer advice but sometimes you just gotta vent.

Also, wouldn't it be discrimination if the reason your hair were short had to do with a medical condition? Likewise, if you lost your hair to chemotherapy or something else related to illness/injury/medical treatment? Since you're keeping your hair short as a means to manage your trichotillomania condition, their rejection may be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act in the U.S. since it would be a reasonable accommodation.

And then it gets real interesting when you have someone who is a mix of two races. When you consider that, it actually isn't impossible for a non-white employee to have hair colors besides dark brown and black. In practice, most companies allow colors of hair that can naturally occur on a human being. Basically they don't want to see things like green and purple.
boyd_crowder: (now that's a win-win)

Surprise surprise.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
please cite an actual example of this happening

because i have literally never seen this happen even once, and i have spent years working in retail/restaurants/offices.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
Some do, some don't. But if an employer or manager wants to be discriminatory against a black woman with dyed blond hair, for example, a "natural color hair" policy gives them a way to do it, and it most certainly does happen.
bat_schway: (120 yeah bonk. don't.)

Sup?

And I've worked in restaurants too and seen it happen to co-workers.

Employers know that they cannot downright refuse to hire non-white employees, but employers are sometimes also be racist fuckers who don't actually want non-white employees working for them. So they create subtly hostile environments in the workplace to make their non-white employees want to quit in frustration and find a job elsewhere.

Things like hair color and hair style/length give employers an easy "justification" for picking on some employees rather than others. (Hell, I've even seen black men reprimanded because they had a little bit of stubble when white men doing the same job were allowed to keep their goatees.)

You have to be naive as fuck if you think that your experience = everyone's experience and that this never happens.

+1

I've worked in a ton of places with rules about dyed hair and I have never seen or heard of this either.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
or it could be just because the job market sucks for everyone right now too.

Check it once or twice a day at most. Don't just have it open the entire time you're online, or you'll find yourself plurking more often than actually rping.

Plurk about rp and your fandoms. Try to keep chatter about your real life to a minimum.

Do not publicly plurk to your entire timeline about rp drama you're having with another player(s). You're asking for trouble with that.

Don't fish for asspats (ie, don't whine about how much you totally suck or whatever).

Try not to turn into one of those people who say stuff like "L M A O?????"

If you want maximum potential responses to your plurks, post in the late afternoon/evenings (going by US timezones) only. In my experience, this garners more responses than any other time of day.

I'm afraid to admit to this in my game, but I love to tag while drinking. I feel less picky with my tags and less inhibited with my writing. Doing so while dry makes me far too careful for my own (and my fellow players') good.

i'm watching the blade trilogy because i can't sleep

anyone else doing an all nighter?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-16 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
i tag while drinking all the time and they know it, probably because they do it too

what mine don't know is i do it while high off my rocker on pot. they do it while high on their pain meds but they'll piss themselves at the mere mention of pot. hilarious thing is mine is for medical issues too so it's no worse than their precious vicodin.
