Re: ICON/GRAPHICS & CODE/HTML HELP

Can anyone help me with a good coloring tutorial for icons? The canon I play from doesn't have many icons ready and it's live action, but the colors are muddy and ugly. Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance, guys!

Could you post a screencap or something so we could see an example?

advice on screentones?

i'm trying to make a set of (uncolored) manga icons, but the screentones in the panels i'm iconning end up looking really ugly when i resize to 100x100. could anyone offer me some tips on making them look better, please?

make sure that the image is set to grayscale or RGB color instead of indexed color, since that can make screentoning (and the image in general) look bad when it's resized. if that's not the problem, playing around with curves and levels might help!

holy shit this is the most helpful comment i've ever seen. thank you anon. the icon making world is now my fucking oyster.

In addition above anon, NEVER resize an image straight down from its original size to 100x100 UNLESS it's already fairly small (no more than about 210x210). You lose a lot of information that way, so things look more blurry/smushed together/you lose more detail. It takes more time, but resize in steps. If you start with a 500x500 image, resize down to 250, then 125, then 100. You may still need to do some sharpening but it won't look nearly as bad. My personal rule of thumb is to resize by halves until I can't anymore. You can usually get away with not being exactly half; if the image ends up being 220px or something so you resize down to 100. You have to play with it.

Really? It always does the opposite for me.

i usually crop mine at 160x160px and resize to 100 from there because it helps. i can't say anything for resizing that many times though.

filling icon requests

Back again to take more requests! Medium doesn't matter, though please provide me with the caps or scans you'd like me to icon. No limit, but specificity means you're more likely to get what you want etc etc

Here you go, anon! If you want to be really nice, let me know what series it is/who the character is so I can update the post information. My inner compulsive categorizer would appreciate it.

layouts + tables

[personal profile] manual 2014-03-05 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
This time on the right thread!

I'm looking to get some free time over the weekend and I want to mess with coding, but I have no idea what i want. Would anyone want a layout or a table? (They won't be anything fancy, though, if that's cool?) I have some stuff up over over here for samples.

Would you mind making a layout/table (either or both is fine, though I really want the table more) based off of these three images? If the quality isn't sufficient or whatever, I don't mind taking another cap. And thanks in advance! (Also no rush!)

Here is my attempt! It came out kind of really far from what I had hoped it would look, sorry for that. :(

How would I go about linking an image or icon and having it resize itself in the code rather than resize the actual image (ex, 100x100 icon is now 80x80?)? And is there a way that I could apply both hover text and a url link to the image, too?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 05:06 am (UTC)(link)

if you're using an icon from dw as the image link, it may make it hard or impossible to see the hover text because of the hover menu that pops up.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Would I just remove title="hovertext" from that if I wanted to remove it?

image posting

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
how do you post multiple images ala a visualosities where you have two columns beside one another and the length of the images all vary?
ambidexter: (Default)

[personal profile] ambidexter 2014-03-07 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
one way to do it is via tables:

the image width is to at least keep everything aligned, like here (image-heavy link).

Thank you so much! Your post is rad btw!

scrolling entries

(Anonymous) 2014-03-07 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to be able to have the content of an entry scroll separate from the page itself so that I don't have a hugely long post to scroll through to get to the comments. Any tips on how to achieve this?

Re: scrolling entries

(Anonymous) 2014-03-08 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)

but without the spaces in the tag. replace x with your preferred width and y with your preferred height, etc
