Do your taxes

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

So I'm playing a new character and canonically she often gives extremely short answers to questions and almost never emotes. How do I make my tags interesting?

short/brusque answers can be humorous sometimes - is there a reason behind why she doesn't talk much? superiority complex/she's shy/something?

You could describe what she's thinking, or simple physical gestures

Think about what draws you to the character and the reason you decided to try playing her, then try to convey that in your tags.

Introspection in brackets helps a lot. I say this as someone who has played a LOT of characters like this. The key isn't just keeping your character interesting to the others characters, but making them engaging to other players. Giving them that insight helps a lot in show there is more to the character than those short responses and they are willing to keep a thread going more even if they know it might take some extra work on their part.

Also, body language. Tone. Make sure to keep these kind of things in mind when writing because your character isn't likely to be standing absolutely still the entire time they speak to someone. What are their eyes doing, do they shift their stance, do they really want to sit down or stand up and are hiding it, etc. Think beyond words and all the other ways humans speak to each other.
