It was insane. People were lining up around the block when new releases dropped, people got into fights over them. They started coming out with all these "accessories" for Stanleys like silicone boots to make them not fall over, chapstick holders you could put on them, dangly bling you could attach to them.
The only real difference is that there was no blind box element to Stanleys, they knew they were camping out waiting for stores to open to get the new super special green cup or whatever.
There's always been products that get randomly hyped, though. Remember Furby? I can't be the only person who's parents got them one when they didn't even want one, because of all the hype.
