how many anons here have revived real old threads they had with strangers in psls or memes or whatever

did you just bite the bullet and tag it back, or did you contact the other person first to see if they're still interested? what's been the success rate in your experience?

i've got a few threads that are a month to two months old where i hit a weird writing block and/or life happened and i never ended up getting around to tagging back. i'm finally in a better headspace to pick them back up, but i'm so embarrassed by how long it's been....

I've tagged back a year old meme thread without warning. Apologized in a small ooc comment, said no hard feelings if they wanted to drop, and just tagged. They responded with a welcome back, and we got on with the thread. It went on for another 60 or so comments before we hit a stopping point.

I also just recently replied to three month old comments and no one responded (but it's also been like 4 days). So I guess my success rate is 25%.

got kind of a stupid question

does anyone else get the urge every so often to watch or read or listen to something really sad that they know will make them cry? i have a couple of songs that i avoid at all times because they emotionally destroy me but maybe once a year i feel like i just need a really good cry so i break them out. i usually feel better afterwards so i guess it's meeting some kind of need but i just wondered if anyone else has experienced this or knows if there's any sort of like... scientific rationale for something like this

you're not weird nonny, i do that too sometimes. usually i look for sad movies/videos instead of music but i get the urge to cry and want that release!! it feels good to let it out too. i don't know about any scientific rationale but i always assume it has to do with hormone fluctuations (for me, anyway).

Headcanon: where do you draw the line?

So something I've been pondering lately, fellow rp 'nons.

What is the point where you, personally, define something as headcanon versus canon-but-not-explicit?

Many canons will imply but not outright state certain facts about the characters; how strong does an implication have to be before it is functionally canon, or conversely, how weak would an implication be before it should be treated as headcanon to incorporate it in how you play a character?

Like, for example, if a canon focuses on a kid and shows them growing up with two parents that they address as 'Mom' and 'Dad' but doesn't delve much into the family structure, is it headcanon to assume that those are the kid's biological parents? To assume that they're married?

I see the difference in terms of this: if you hear hoofbeats, assume horses, not zebras. Headcanon should not be something too out-there to have gone unmentioned in canon, and should fit the universe.

If a character is shown in canon to have a mom and dad who they address as such and never alludes to anything else, it'd be weird to assume they're not blood related to the character and married.

Heck, depending on the character, I wouldn't even consider "character was adopted and his adopted parents are divorced" headcanon, because that could impact that character's life to such an extent that I'd consider that an AU. Esp for characters whose family lineage plays a role in the story.

i have gmail, and whenever i get a new tag it never goes into my gmail primary inbox, it always goes into the social tab thing, which means my phone will not notify me when i receive a new tag. i'm not sure how to fix this, because i'd like to receive an actual notification rather than just checking my email whenever i remember, which is very rarely on busy days.

Trying to understand what makes some top levels more successful than others in tdms and logs.

Obviously it's impossible to tag every single person but what do you look for in a good top level and why are some reasons you don't tag others?

idk what makes them successful, but the only reason I don't tag is because I can't think of how my character would respond to the prompt. Or, I guess, I read the prompts, and see nothing that would lead to a thread versus one or the other character just shutting off the interaction in two tags. And that's not the fault of the prompt, it could be the hookiest hook to ever hook but the specific chemistry betwee our characters would not lead to a lasting thread.

I do sometimes bend characterization to force, say, my stoic ass or my idiot to be curious enough to sort out the situation, if I really want to try to get some CR going, but even that isn't foolproof. At least I read all the prompts, take a moment to imagine a response, and if it doesn't give me enough to roll with, I pass.

first, lots of love to you, anon. friend breakups are terrible. if updates on how they're doing are impacting you negatively, blocking them everywhere (and avoiding them irl if that is relevant) is a good first step. it's great that you're looking into therapy for this, too. if you have the energy for it, try to be present in your other friendships. reach out and make activity-focused plans with them around things you both enjoy. set aside a bit of time each day to check in with yourself about your feelings regarding the breakup -- write about them, maybe, or just let yourself cry.

Informal Smut RP Poll

I feel like I've noticed a couple schools of thought in my rp acquaintances circle regarding smut rp. Lemme explain them below.

School A does OOC negotiation and establishes what kinks will be included and also what level of consensuality (for lack of a better word) will take place in the scene: consensual, noncon, or dubcon. If the players agree, IC negotiation might take place but also it's fine to basically jump in and go at it with no IC negotiation taking place.

School B incorporates OOC negotiation the same as School A, but also wants/expects IC negotiation to take place in the thread itself. If this doesn't happen, it can discomfit the player involved. I'll admit that this particular example is an anecdote, but I was at one point told about a player who agreed to do a threesome with their character and ended up leaving the scene angry and uncomfortable because the IC negotiation hadn't taken place and they felt a noncon scene had been strung on them.

I'm way more of a School A type of person. My feeling is if we've negotiated on an OOC level what we want out of a scene, including consent level, I'm not really interested in rehashing the same negotiation ICly. It's not necessarily realistic that the characters wouldn't negotiate or discuss what they were going to do, but there's plenty of other unrealistic things about rp smut that mostly just get handwaved away and that doesn't bother me. It has occurred to me lately that I should make this preference clear so that I can either get on the same page with School B people, or so they can opt out in full knowledge of what my preference is.

Would you say you're more School A or School B? Have you run into mismatched expectations from someone from the opposite school? Am I totally talking out of my ass

nonnies, especially those with adhd or time management issues,
how do you find and set aside time to rp? i'm really making a concentrated effort to preserve time for my hobbies and not just the things i HAVE to do, but i have commitments before and after work, and i work full time. usually i have 4-5 hours tops (assuming i'm going to bed at the time i should be) of free time when i get home from work. i'm not really able to get much housework done when i get home because i'm just so fried, and i also mod a game.

but i really want to set aside time to do something for me and my hobbies, and i think my emotional wellbeing is better when i have time to rp or time to do anything for myself, really. i'm just not good at sticking with schedules etc.

are there organizers for keeping track of what you need to tag back, things you make or do, etc? any advice at all on how to set aside time for writing etc would be really helpful. thank you.

I really miss the Final Fantasy themed games we used to have every now and then. They never seemed to last more than a year or two, but it always seemed like there was another ready to take the place of the previous one.

Same here. It feels like adventure-type games aren't really in vogue anymore except as a sidequest generator for general jamjars. Maybe it's because the plot progression doesn't fit a long-term game, but then you'd think there'd be more short-term games like it.
