this. years ago when it was more common i had a note in my permissions to that effect.

think about it, if you discovered someone else had read a book or watched a show about your life it would be weird, and raise a lot of questions, but it would not result in you concluding that you must be fictional and not a real person, because some stranger believed you were fictional! that reaction never made any sense to me. so i noted that fourthwalling was fine but my characters would not agree that they were in fact just fictional characters, no matter what was said.

this approach was unusual in the rp circles i was in at the time. lots of characters accepting they weren't real and either freaking out or the writer just playing it all for laughs.
