Re: HORSE OWNER

oh god yes

so normally when horses change herds there's an adjustment period where they're all sort of tumultuous and violent picking out the new pecking order. so she got put in this girlgang with three other horses, the leader of which is notorious at the barn for being an absolute menace to the other girls. so i was a little worried she'd get picked on because at her old barn she was terrorized by a 34yo gelding with 7 remaining teeth who was more than 1 hand (4 inches) shorter than her at the shoulder.

day 1 and she was just eating her hay pile off to the side of the big roundbale manger and they weren't letting her get close. apparently the boss mare chased her all around, she was squealing, etc. well then day 2 and it's all revenge of the nerds because my girl decides, apparently, that she's had enough, and plots a coup. she overthrew the boss mare, seized the manger, and wouldn't let ANY of the other three horses except for the girl at the very bottom of the pecking order anywhere near the hay holder and made them all eat from the little pile the barn owner set out for her. any time they tried to get close she'd chase them away, and then when someone tried to grab the boss mare the boss mare was scared to even come up to the fence because she knew my girl was going to lunge at her (she did).

NOT the turn of events i or anyone else expected, but everyone was like 'we love to see it' because it was a little karmic given how naughty the previous boss mare often was to the horses under her. eventually though ms beastie had to be moved to a different paddock because she kicked out (a typical display for them) and actually hit the lowest mare in the shoulder (not unusual but barn owner has to keep the peace etc). now she's in a paddock that shares a fence with about 4 other horses and her neighbor to the right is absolutely obsessed with her. if he so much as sees me grab her halter off the fence he starts screaming but he doesn't have a normal neigh so he sounds like a velociraptor bellowing into the skies around jurassic park. it's a lot
