da i have absolutely seen opt outs in cases of having problems with the character and/or canon. it's one of the reasons opt outs are there for. if i play a rapist type character or come from a canon that has a lot of very triggering content in it, i would blanket put up an opt out post and be very okay with anyone in memes or games asking me not to tag them. they don't even have to go into detail on it. it's called self awareness.
that said, maybe someone just really dislikes an actor or that character/canon is a sensitive topic for them, so opting out entirely should not be an issue. and with most people, it wouldn't be. in this instance, there shouldn't be an issue with an adult player pinging someone or tagging a permissions/opt out page and just stating that they're opting out of this cr/character. i'd side eye someone not being willing to go along with that more than 'i don't want this cr at all so please don't tag me'. at least one half of this party is using their words.
