Favorite: I work for a small family-owned restaurant with a specialized niche. I enjoy walking first-time customers through our menu. Here's the specials this month, here's what's fried, grilled, sandwiches, soups. You don't like anything spicy? Okay, skip X and try Y, or we can do Z with a different seasoning or marinade.
I truly like being the hype man for our product, because the food's actually pretty damned good.
Least favorite: I've got a couple.
One of our fry cooks is just an asshole. He's been working for the company for 20 years, and he's snide and mean and his brand of sarcasm is that one that really trips up my neurodivergent communication style? You know, the kind of guy who will go 'god, what the fuck did you do that for?' and then say later 'you know I was joking, right?'
The other thing I cannot stand is customers who come in within the last twenty minutes, order a special dish that takes extra time to prepare/cook, and then they eat it in the restaurant while we're actively trying to close around them. Please, please if you're going to walk in at the very end of the night, consider getting something fried that's quick to cook or at least take it to go.
