in small/private games, sure. but there are reasons that big games keep defaulting to the same general set of mechanics, and that's because of the amount of modwork involved.
i've got an idea for a game with what i think is an "interesting" mechanic, but due to the amount of work it would take on my end to make the mechanic happen, if i ever make the game i would be limiting it to no more than a dozen players for my own sanity.
