In theory people who know the villain better shouldn't automatically believe some random but in practice, even though Psychic Villain Senses are in many ways a thing of the past, automatically believing the first person who tells a character a villain is evil even if it doesn't make ic sense is one of the last vestiges of that kind of thing that still exists in the wild. I haven't personally had an issue with this but I've seen it happen.
