I realized this was how things worked. When I realized things were going to shit in 2020 and massively curated my internet content for my own mental health, I realized just how much they need you to be angry, afraid, and hateful. It's a psychological thing. If you think your way of life is in danger, your whole being will focus on those things, even if they are really stupid.

That's not to deny ugly shit happened these last years, because it really, really did. But I also noticed that this sort of shit you mention is nearly everywhere. Even fucking youtubers, who cry and moan about the monetization and how they don't know how are going to eat... are the first to go towards riling up their audience with false news, heavily opinionated garbage, or especially (barely) concealed bigoted shit, just so they can ride the algorithm.

Nowadays, it's the reason I try to avoid any discussion of politics, drama, or clickbait. Because more often than not, they're massively opinionated topics for which there will be no clear heads.
