I was telling one of my offsite RP friends about the anon culture on here and her response was along the lines of, “it sounds like no one there has a life.” It’s really funny to hear outsider opinions about us. I tend to lean on preboot characterization for him but I’d be thrilled to play with either of these ladies from other mediums/universes and either treat it as a cross-verse meeting or give the equivalent Dick a try. Smut is a possibility, but it’s not a must for me and tbh I’m a lot more interested in playing out the slow burn of getting together/staying together.

the thought that I have to eat my vegetables (do the tags I owe) before I can have my dessert (do the tags I want to write) is really killing my writing drive altogether lately. and it sucks, because I also feel guilty as hell for holding up someone else's cr because my brain just wants to jump on this other thread.

fwiw, and I know this is a controversial opinion around here w shouts of 'flakes' in games all the time — but I'd rather someone did what they wanted while it was fresh and exciting for them and either dropped their thread w me or got back to it later. I don't need or want phoned in tags, AND i genuinely don't want people forcing themselves to do something un-fun just because they're afraid of looking like a flake to me.

I get it. Sometimes you're more hype about one thread/storyline/character than another. Sometimes something is just easier to write for some reason. Like...I'd probably be a bit bummed, esp if I had been excited about the thread, but ultimately we're humans and this is our hobby, and I'd rather someone did something they wanted even if it's not with me.

I think it's really only an issue if it's happening all the time/you never communicate about dropping threads/it becomes a pattern that disrupts game CR and timing more than once or twice. It requires some level of reading the room and being respectful still, but I really think this panic-inducing 'I don't want to be seen as a flake' culture we're perpetuating w anon comms is stifling creativity in some of the dwrp writers who force themselves to ignore things they'd rather be writing.

Clary and Nero are fine. The players know doing an IC relationship for them in game wouldn’t be possible given both are happily spoken for in their source material so they keep it strictly ooc. This is about mod favoritism and mods mishandling their NPC for the sake of a shallow ship that sprung up way too fast and favored one player way too much.

this is a hobby that is self-indulgent by its very nature. start embracing it. don't completely fuck off your other threads but go ahead and double-tag the threads you're excited about. strike iron while it's hot. you'll thank yourself later when you re-read the thread and see how much further its gone since you didn't reign yourself back.

my friend is starting to veer down that path

we're in a tiny group chat (just 3 of us) and i can tell our third friend is starting to get tired of it too. we try to gently change the topic whenever salty discourse comes up

clary and nero are player characters, who cares. if they start shipping in game, who cares. there are no advantages over the rest of the game

my advice to the mods would be to actually let rey struggle and face ic setbacks. i have a lot of faith in this mod team, as they handled everything else really well, but right now it looks like they want to have their cake and eat it too without upsetting this one player

start with one or two tags that you want to do, to get your writing brain going and then circle back to the tags you have to do. It's like having fancy canapés before the main course.

part of what's killing your drive (possibly) is that the anxiety about what you need to do can get a little overwhelming. then you don't want to do anything. but once you buckle down and get those outstanding tags done, you'll feel so much better and you'll be more productive going forward.
