yes, this is a subset of the pokemon fandom

people want to do it

seriously, everyone has their own interpretations that they base off of artwork, hints in game dialogue, etc., and piecing together a personality from all these things can be pretty fun. but basically the thing is people just want to play them so they do these things and then they play them.

But... there aren't any hints in game dialogue. It doesn't change depending on which protagonist you use, so you are basing it entirely on what they wear. Except for the players in Crystal, ONE GAME, who could say no, the protagonists are interchangeable from game to game aside from their clothing.

That's what I don't get.

there are, very vague ones, in every game if you're really looking for them, like the anon below mentioned

eg. in ruby/sapphire, you have to get into the museum to move the team aqua/magma plot further. if you don't have enough money to get in, the receptionist's dialogue implies the PC is pretending they're part of the team so they can get in without paying. so you could possibly deduce that they're pretty wily and don't mind doing weird shit like that for the ~greater good~. all of the stuff like this could easily be interpreted as pokemon NPCs being dumb weirdos who make shit up but it's just kind of enjoyable to try and pick it out and put it all together

yeah it's usually pretty measly reasoning, but the worst case scenario with these kinds of characters is just that they're being played in a game that doesn't allow OCs, which is rather unfair -- but even then, you should take it up with the mods who accept them
