Get that literally out of here

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Hi anons! I'm playing a rude character who is very neutral and downright distrustful majority of the time, and it's definitely new cultivating negative CR while not really having positive ones (from their perception).

I'm not worried about the voice so much, but have you guys ever had to speed up what would be the canonical process of such a character warming up to people for the sake of RP convenience? Or do you stick to your guns and slowly let the CR thaw their ice cold heart out, waiting? I'm not talking like friends within a month / three meetings sort, just curious.

I’ve found myself doing things like that before, yeah- not in the way where a severely distrustful or icy character winds up getting a new best friend within three meetings, like you said, but I think things like that can be really helpful with certain characters. Usually, I’ll do it by seeking out characters who I know will remind them of someone they’re close to in their canon or who hit some sort of soft spot they have, and then the development starts to roll in from there. So I’ll do things OOC to get the IC outcome that I want, I guess?

OTOH, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with sticking to your guns if that’s what you prefer! I know that if I were on the receiving end of CR like that (i.e. a character was cold/rude/distrustful toward mine), I’d find it to be super interesting and I’d probably reach out to keep things going.

My muse has like, two canonical soft spots? I guess that's still more than other characters though, laughs. This has been a reassuring reply, thanks anon! I'm definitely excited for development, but I'd like to keep it natural feeling for them. I am worried about how to pace things, but when the time comes I think it'll be worth all this mental workout weighing where their character goes and when.

I think if you're in a plot-based game, that can help. I was in a horror game a few years ago and a lot of the positive CR I had with my distinctly unlikeable character came from being paired with someone during whatever nasty game event was happening at the time. Working together for the sake of survival or sharing a common goal with someone usually forced SOME form of respect, which was a pretty good way to kickstart an actual friendship.

So I guess my advice is to be more active in events that would force your character to talk to people? That way if you decide to speed up your CR with someone, you have an IC reason to do it.

It's more SOL than my previous heavy plot game and with a slower unveiling overarching narrative, so it's definitely taking longer. Solid advice though! I'm definitely on the lookout as far as to what events my muse would willingly participate in, while bending the rules a little bit for the sake of them not becoming a complete recluse while everyone else is having a more jolly time in the off period.

i don't think there's anything wrong with it, anon. i tend to find that bending things (within reason of course) can make for a more enjoyable rp experience for everyone involved. for example i play an extremely shy character but likewise i have them warm up a little faster than they would and be more open to approaching people. i just don't want to make everyone constantly work for a thread and carry things because my character is difficult, you know?

but also there's nothing wrong with sticking it out, either. like all things in this hobby, ooc communication can help there so that people know you're interested in the cr and where it could go and that you'd like to aim for a defrosting! i think it's much easier to play out that sort of thing knowing a vague goal like that and it makes it exciting to see how it develops towards it too.

Any of the metafictional characters from Re;Creators

I have my eyes set on playing one of the characters from this series when its over, but am having trouble with the matter of most characters knowing their fictional.

Would they assume the same of people from other canons or just chalk them up to being creators themselves?

IMO, it'd depend on the kind of world they're from. If it's a character from a crazy high-tech or magic world or something else that would fall in line with the fictional worlds in the canon, it'd be fair to assume they're a creation. If the character is from a more normal, modern setting though, they could just as easily be a creator. Either way that'd be a pretty interesting thing for them to deal with, especially since most games don't have any real way for character to fourth wall themselves and "confirm" if they're fictional.

I'm new to playing him and would appreciate some advice about younger!Erik here. I know he's not the easiest to nail down.
