i've rped with people who don't do this and who then complain about getting their threads dropped. they focus entirely on their own character, how they feel etc instead of switching some of that focus externally. it's important to do so, otherwise it can feel like you're smutting in isolation and using the other character as a kind of prop.
your character is in a smut scene. ideally they're reacting or acting in part because of another character. this character is a pretty important aspect to your character right now. your character's perceptions of that character are also important. that's going to be part of the drive behind their actions or reactions.
it also acts as a bit of ego stroking tbh. rpers love hearing about their own characters in other's writing. it's just a thing. in the case of smut threads, it can help keep interest alive.
