love ur lack of an ic/ooc divide

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

they started advertising the game before any of the actual pages were finished. they had a tdm and reserves opened before the app page was ready. they opened apps before they had a sample app ready, and there are still links on the navigation that lead to under construction pages.

none of that alone would be a big deal (though that when you're opening a game there's no reason not to have everything ready from the moment you first start advertising, since its not like you have a hard deadline). all of that together, in a game run by someone with a history of killing games because she didn't do her modwork, is a pretty big red flag. but hey, i wish you luck. maybe things will be different this time.

good luck to anyone who has the time to waste on this game and decides to go for it but it will be a sinking ship.

legit question but do we really need sample apps in this day and age? are we as a group unable to work out how to write an application?

(Anonymous) 2017-01-26 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
thing is, different games have different ideas of what makes a proper app. it's good to know what they consider a worthy app.

this is why sample apps are a good thing to have. some games like quotes, some like certain formats, some want this or that or whatever thing that would get a revision or rejection in another game. some are cool with gifs or images and if that's in the sample app, then you know. there's plenty of reason for games to have sample apps and i really don't know why op would be against them at all. not like you have to look at them. they're there for people that need an example.

Isn't the worry then that you just get a lot of people stretching to put whatever hipster prettification there is in the sample app into their own? I mean, if a game tells you to write your character's personality in 200-1000 words, do you really need to be told anything more?

Maybe I've been doing apps wrong but I've never wondered any of those things.

the fuuuuck

quotes and gifs and all that bullshit are unnecessary, especially when i've seen games out there that specifically ask you NOT to modify the app with additional html and such

if mods want extras, they need to put them in the app template in the first place. that's kind of what the app template is for

who hurt you, anon?

the only people i've ever seen that need to see a sample app are people i wish didn't get in the game because all they do is force their app to be longer and better quality than they're capable of churning out almost ever and their app is NEVER an indication of how they typically write or play a character

tbh it's the same reason i wish revisions were done away with completely aside from minor things that with a little additional information like expand on this or that or could you explain this part about their powers or you forgot your plurk name (not improvement or longer or whatever samples because you should be putting your best foot forward and trying to make a good impression the same way you do when you fill out a job application and get called in to talk to someone!).

sample apps are useless. people do whatever style they want no matter what and if they're gonna shove in gifs and giant font quotes in hopes of it looking like they know what they're talking about, they're going to do it anyway. if it says 200-1000 words, you should be able to glean how many words cover your character's personality or history adequately. if you can't do that that should ALSO be considered grounds for rejection.

nah, games don't need sample apps imo. but in this case they indicated there would be some and at the time apps opened there weren't. it's less 'games need sample apps' and more 'yet another thing not done on time'.
