Also try threading privately with friends who are more experienced with writing smut and are relaxed about it. If you want to expand beyond that I actually do recommend joining a locked sex game because you're mingling with other people to write porn with but it's still in a more private space than memes. Alternatively you can make separate alts just for memes/anonymous psls to test the waters if you don't want to commit to a game.
Another thing: don't be afraid to be direct about your preferences and make a list for them, even if you feel they're vanilla. Using f-list to do that can be super overwhelming when you're getting started with this because it has a lot of out there stuff listed so maybe just try making a simple list of things you do and don't want to play on your character's journal. It's really handy as a springboard for thread ideas and for connecting with people who have similar tastes to yours.
