Ray Holt | Brooklyn Nine Nine

Holt'a trademark is always being deadpan, but occasionally he does break it (see this season's VINDICATION! and BONE?! as examples). What situations would be best for Holt to do that, and how much would be too much?

Additionally, given that this show is for the most part, episodic, when doing a canon review, should I just focus on plot episodes and Holt-centric episodes?
