You could've said nothing and just slowly plurked about money/hours and that you're thinking of moving in with your parents soon or told them that, ya dummy. Maybe your parents would oust you if the visited but you could just say it's a touchy subject and your friend hopefully wouldn't bring it up or be left alone with them long enough that your parents would.
