tbf to kawamori, he's wanted to do certain things multiple times which get rejected by higher ups consistently. as an example, he wanted to cut out the love triangle aspect, but they rejected it and told him that he has to include it.

since what worked before to make money should make them money again or whatever. so not all story decisions are kawamori's own choices.
