we don't have basements where I live but it really depends on the spider type. Long thin ones can stay, anything that's too bulbous or too big and thick legged at the same time needs to be elsewhere. We had a brown widow infestation at my old house until the long thin slenderman spiders moved in. They're good peoplebugs.
