the fact that they mention the au in the first place makes me think there's something fucked up with the original dynamic to make shipping something someone doesn't want, like siblings/family members, or the relationship being strictly platonic because of someone being married/interested in the opposite gender. not everyone's okay with au. i certainly don't like it. so if i were to start out playing the canon dynamic and was asked to au so we could ship and i didn't like the ship, no, i'm not going to au to ship. expecting that off the bat is totally entitled.
