rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

how do you respond to people on memes when they reply to your toplevel but you don't know them, the character they tagged you with, and there's no identifying information on their journal at all?

specifically when it's a meme where you'd have to come up with the scenario, like picture prompt or song lyrics.

asking because i don't meme often so if there's etiquette for this i'm ignorant.

as someone that's been in this situation before, i pm'd them and politely let them know that while i'd like to reply, i didn't have any info to go on in terms of who it was or what they'd be like and what might be the best way to set something up. they had no profile info, no name in their name field, nothing on their journal, and i had no way to who/what i was tagging.

i was fortunate in that they got back to me nicely and directed me to a wiki about their char, and then posted something in their profile after. it's a bit of a tossup what someone might do. they might not get back to you or they might give you a basic run down or they might just decide that means you don't want to play with them and they remove their tag (which i've also had happen). just be polite but upfront and the rest is up to them.

i don't. if they're too lazy to put so much as a name and series in their profile so their character can be looked up, i'm not going to bother with them.

if it's a meme where the person tagging in posts a starter, it's a different story, since i don't really have to know anything about them to respond to their tag.

If I want to tag back: tag them back.

If I don't want to tag back: don't tag back.

I'm an idiot, so I'll go out of my way to look them up and go from there. Actually, that's part of the fun of RPing on a meme I find. I might be a masochist.
